Secret Spots in Asia Nobody is Talking About
/Asia, the absolute dream location for all travellers. The continent is so diverse and vibrant with so much culture to offer, from high rise capital cities and bustling night markets to pristine beaches and luscious jungles. Budget friendly, welcoming locals, delicious cuisines and unbelievable history, you are always guaranteed an amazing stay in Asia.
Some spots across Asia are more well known than others. Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Phuket in Thailand and Ha Long Bay in Vietnam are all world renowned spots and amazing in their own right, I would definitely recommend a visit to all of them. However, in this blog I am going to walk you through some of the lesser known locations across Asia, they are slightly off the typical South East Asia route but trust me, you are going to absolutely love them!
Bagan, Myanmar
Myanmar is a country brimming with historical culture, Bagan certainly showcases that in an extraordinary way. The city was once home to over 10,000 temples built between the 11th and 13th centuries. To this day there are approximately 2200 temples and pagodas still standing. Experiencing a sunrise is Bagan is an absolute must, a memory that you will never forget. The hot air balloons rising in the pastel coloured skies floating over the hundreds of temples is like a painting brought to life. The best way to explore the many temples and pagodas is by E-bike. There are plenty of E-bike rental shops in Old Bagan town, they hold plenty of charge for a full day of exploring.
Luang Prabang, Laos
Luang Prabang is a gorgeous little town situated on the Mekong River in the Northern region of Laos. The locals are extremely friendly here and give off such a welcoming vibe. You can take a day trip to the gorgeous Kuang Si Falls and take a dip in the crystal clear waters to cool off from the Laotian heat. You can also take a boat trip along the Mekong River during sunset, with gorgeous panoramic views all round, you’re bound to feel unbelievably relaxed. Utopia bar is another great spot to watch the Sun descend over the Mekong as you sip on a cocktail or an ice cold Laos beer.
Da Lat, Vietnam
Da Lat is a stunning city situated in Southern Vietnam’s mountainous highlands. The city can be found 150kms inland from Vietnam’s East coast that many choose to stick to, this little diversion if definitely worth it though. Da Lat is home to one of the most scenic cable car rides, ascending and descending through the highlands down to Tuyen Lam lake and Truc Lam Monastery. The lake is lined with many cafes and restaurants to take in the tranquil atmosphere of the area. Back in Da Lat’s centre take a unique visit to the intriguing maze bar. This place is such a fun and interesting bar, you will need to navigate through the narrow and winding maze rooms to get to the other areas of the bar. Be warned, it may be slightly difficult to find your way back out after too many Vietnamese beers.
Jaipur, India
Jaipur, otherwise known as the Pink City. is one of the most vibrant and energetic cities I’ve ever visited. The majority of the buildings in the city are painted a beautiful pink colour. Arguably the most beautiful of all these buildings is the Palace of the Winds, make sure you bring your camera for this one! The intricate detail in the palace is just stunning and such a gorgeous backdrop to the city. A good photo spot is in the café opposite the palace on the second floor. Another great place to visit in Jaipur is the Nahargarh Fort, again boasting such intricate architecture and incredible colours as well as lots of history that can be better understood with a tour guide on site.
Sometimes heading off the beaten track, where many others haven’t visited is where you’re able to be surprised the most. These spots will definitely blow you away and add an extra depth and twist to your trip to Asia.
