What I have learnt through Quarantine…………
/The last two months have been an unprecedented time of uncertainty for many people around the world. The idea of what is “normal” has changed for everyone. Even though quarantine has been challenging, I have taken the time during my time at home to reflect on some of the positives and how we might make changes in our life going forward as Canada slowly reopens.
For me, the thing I enjoyed the most during quarantine has been spending quality time with my family. This quality family time included activities such as cooking, playing games or simply having long chats with my kids. Despite this, I still miss going to my kids’ sporting events, being able to go to friends’ homes for dinner and giving hugs😉.
The one thing I do not miss while in quarantine is the hectic life we lead. I think many of us take for granted some of the simple joys in life while we are so caught up in everyday life. But travel allows us to take a break from our busy lives and enjoy life at its fullest. That is why I love to travel!
As Canada begins the process of reopening, the ability to move around freely and begin traveling again is certainly one of them. Travel can be a great way to reconnect and bring families back together after weeks of panic and uncertainty.
Here are four ways that travel can rejuvenate a family and help them to re-explore the themselves and the world:
Travel as a Way to Celebrate Family Milestones
Whether it is a birthday, anniversary, graduation, wedding, retirement, family reunion, or any other special celebration, traveling outside of your norm can help provide meaningful memories that will stick with you forever.
Travel Reignites Family Friendships
Everyone is always busy. It is hard for families both near and far to make time to see each other and before you know it, years have passed. When families travel together their relationships are strengthened and deepened. By disconnecting from routine and indulging in new experiences, everlasting and priceless memories are made.
There will come a time during any journey or excursion where you and your family may find yourselves in new and unfamiliar environments or situations. These are the moments where the family dynamic can shift from friends to teammates. Simple scenarios like finding your way around a big city, navigating a new public transport system, or figuring out a menu in a foreign language, brings family members together and has them working like teammates.
The Importance of Time
Unlike at home, where there are both mental and physical distractions that keep us preoccupied, traveling makes it essential to truly live in the moment. This allows for family members to spend quality time with one another. While on vacations, time really does slow down making those special moments into a lifetime of precious memories and experiences.
There is truly no better feeling than getting to explore new destinations with the ones you love. Whether it is your biological family or the people you choose to call family, travel can help bring these relationships closer together. With the world slowly re-opening, it is a great time to start daydreaming about some of the travel dreams you have.
